The Prophetic Method of Education in the Light of Modern Psychological and Social Sciences

Abstract

This research investigates the pedagogical methodology of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and its relevance to modern psychological and social sciences. The study demonstrates that the Prophet’s educational model was comprehensive, addressing not only intellectual and cognitive aspects but also emotional, moral, spiritual, and social dimensions of human growth. Unlike many contemporary approaches that focus primarily on technical or behavioral aspects, the Prophetic model integrates compassion, empathy, gradual training, and moral guidance into the very fabric of education. The findings highlight several dimensions of this pedagogy. First, positive reinforcement and encouragement were central to the Prophet’s method, which aligns with modern psychology’s emphasis on affirmation for building self-confidence and resilience. Second, his approach to anger management and emotional regulation resonates strongly with contemporary theories of emotional intelligence, emphasizing patience, self-control, and empathy. Third, social training within family and community structures formed a critical element, ensuring children developed responsibility, cooperation, and respect for others. Fourth, the use of practical role-modeling demonstrates the principle that children and youth learn most effectively through lived examples rather than abstract instruction. This study concludes that Prophetic pedagogy not only predates but also surpasses modern educational theories by presenting a timeless, human-centered, and holistic approach. It provides valuable insights for contemporary parents, educators, and policymakers seeking to integrate ethical, emotional, and social dimensions into effective education and training systems.
